FADE IN:
At one point in our lives, we all sat down and wanted to write Hollywood's next masterpiece! We downloaded Celtx, Final Draft, or we we found a way to modify Word and we sat down and started to write.
And then the phone rang, and the children started to scream, and the dog peed on the carpet, and your boss called and said you needed to come in on the weekend.
The script was put on the shelf.
As writers we often sit alone and compete against a blank page. We may even consider a single page a victory for the day. Unfortunately, we may not even et to that far, allowing ourselves to become distracted before we even begin.
Here at Script Race we have come up with a concept to keep you focused on writing. At Script Race, you can compete against other writers, which keeps you focused on your project and motivates you to write as fast as you can.
The rules are simple, but the competition is fierce. The best part is that everyone wins. All participants have a completed script by the end of the race!
FADE OUT:
WHAT IS SCRIPT RACE? HOW DOES IT WORK?
The concept is simple. Like any other race, you will be competing against other writers. We will attempt to have a race every month. You will be given a start time and we will do a virtual Ready, Set, Go! Tweet your progress each day to _ScriptRace and we will update the site!
IS THERE AN ENTRY FEE?
No, unless you have already made millions, then yes, please send us a check, or at the very least adopt us and leave us all your money. We have no intention of making this a pay service.
WHAT DO I WIN?
An ego boost! Well that and a completed script. Definitely bragging rights!
WHY DO I HAVE TO SIGN UP?
I don't read minds...yet. No information will be sold to another party unless that person is Bill Gates and he is going to pay me a bajillion dollars for it. Then you are all out of luck.
HOW WILL I KNOW THE OTHER PERSON DIDN'T CHEAT?
How do we know YOU aren't cheating? This is for fun. We are all big boys and girls so everyone is going to be on the honor system. If you say you finish a script in a day, we'll know something is up and we will publically humiliate you.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT?
You aren't on Twitter yet? Really? Wow. No, it is not necessary but there will be a lot less smack talk going on.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE TO COMPETE AGAINST SOMEONE?
No. If you would like to just post a goal, we can do that for you as well so the whole world can hold you accountable and make fun of you and harrass you when you miss your goal.
FINAL NOTE:
Should you do anything suspicious or malicious, utter racist, sexist, or other degrading or humiliating comments toward your opponent, you will immediately be removed from the site. Smack talk is fun. Hurtful talk is not tolerated.
1. You must sign up for each month you would like to participate.
2. You must start from page 1 of a new script. If you are in the middle of a script and you would like you join the race, you must indicate what page you are currently on.
3. Please update your page count daily by sending a tweet to _ScriptRace or by emailing ScriptRace_gmail.com
4. We use the honor system here, so please do not cheat. Write as much as you can in a competitive spirit. Stay focused and write your hearts out.
5. Take your wife out to dinner. Give your husband a back rub. This is for fun and we do not want to see anyone divorced or hear they have passed out at their desks from writing 24/7. Live life but keep writing!
6. The key to any race is preparation. Do as much preparation on your script prior to the race, just do not start writing the actual script until the race has begun.
